Boys
The AAASM Boys to men Project – Boys was designed to address the needs of African American
boys in America. The project focuses on the development of the boys on two levels:
1. The man as leader: mind, body and spirit
2. The importance and need for education
The Boys to men Project – Boys is a ten month program designed to provide positive interaction
between at risk youth and program mentors. The main objective of this program is to provide
leadership and direction to the youth and build a since of trust between the mentor and the youth.
This program targets youth with behavioral and academic problems. The program will tailor
services on various levels:
Black Youth that:
Do not have criminal or truancy issues but on the borderline. These are youth more likely to stay
out of trouble with a low but consistent level of guidance.
Do have serious disciplinary issues that need daily interaction with program members.
All other Youth

Ideally, the program begins in late August and runs through May. The program begins by
evaluating the needs of the youth. The two assigned mentors will contact the youth weekly and
the mentor will share all information with the mother at the mother’s convenience. The young
member of the project will be assigned two male mentors, one five to seven years older and
another ten or more years older. These men will be on call to address the needs of the young

has some one he can call, text or email at any time to discuss any situation. The mentors will
confidentially follow up with the mother regularly to gives status and updates on issues
discussed.
Weekly meetings are held in a class room setting and outside supervised special events are
planned as well. Special group events are planned and speakers will be invited to speak on
issues that directly affect program members. The AAASM will work directly with professionals in
the areas of spirituality, psychology, childhood development, and physical fitness to lead and
guide the mentors as they help program members.
Before the youth is able to enter into the program, he will be required to graduate from an
orientation program as detailed below. Prior to graduation, the candidate will be able to perform
in the capacity of an aid or observer of the program only. The time spent as an aid for the
program can be used toward the 5-hour community service requirement.
