Management/Leadership/Vision
It is the intent of the Association of African American Single Mothers to develop programs that work! Poverty is now
effecting generations of children in a way that they now have less opportunity then their parents. It is the vision and the
mission of the AAASM to make an impact that is real, effective and actually changes lives.
In order to make this program effective, a high level of communication, cooperation and accountability between the levels
of leadership is needed. An Executive Team (ET) will head this program. The ET will be the direct link between the
Community Council (CC), Community Partners (CP) and the Administrative Team (AT). These four entities will be
responsible for setting a common vision for the Communities of Hope exemplary standards.
The Executive Team are salaried employees of the program and comprise of three members. The Executive Director (ED)
heads the group and serves as the voice of the program. The ED will ensure the success of the program by overseeing
the activities of all departments. The ED will ensure the program activities are working towards the programs vision and
goals. The ED is an advocate for the program and will meet with the residents, leadership and community partners in
each state explain the need for and purpose of the program. The ED will set goals for and monitor activities of each
member of the Executive Team.
The second member of the Executive Team (ET) is the Information Secretary (IS). The IS will monitor the process of data
collection and distribution. The ET will also oversee the production of documentation designed to assist entities in
adapting and implementing exemplary practices in new communities. The IS will set a standard of reportable activities
based on program goals. The list of reportable goals could include:
1) The number of low-income people who have join the community council or volunteered in program activities.
2) The number of new business started in low-income communities.
3) The number of low-income people purchasing homes
4) Unemployed people become employed
5) The number of community partners coordinated a service initiative designed to provide local healthcare,
emergency housing, educational services and employment services.
The final member of the ET is the Resource Director (RD). The RD will direct and monitor the acquisition of Community
Partners and their resources. In this hurting economy, those living closest to the levels of poverty feel the greatest effect
when resources are scarce. Government resources are being taken away daily from programs that benefit the poor and
for this reason Community Partnership is vital to the success of the project. It is vital that partners have the ability and
will to contribute with monetary donations, in-kind contributions and technical assistance to assist in developing an
economic development plan that works best for them and their community. The RD will ensure that community partners
cover a ride range of assets that will benefit the best interest of the community. Exemplary governance of these
resources will also be the charge of the RD and the Financial Officer. The RD will also monitor in the acquisition of college
level interns to assist us in each state.
All ‘teams” are comprised of seven to ten members and staffed with a combination of college interns, scholars and
volunteers from a wide range of professions.
