I am really not certain people in the Black Community are really aware of this epidemic facing our people today.  I was
shocked to hear that AIDS in Black America is as severe as in Africa.  Awareness and education is key and truly must
begin at home.  The statistics are startling and if we do not make every effort to protect ourselves and our families, we
will cease to exist as a race.

The number of people infected with the virus that causes AIDS is 40 percent higher than previously estimated by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  According to the Center, there were 56,300 new HIV infections reported
to the previously reported 40,000 new cases.  What's more important is that the study showed that HIV has the
greatest impact among African Americans and gay and bisexual men of all races.

"The rate of new infections among non-Hispanic Blacks was seven times as high as that among whites in 2006 (83.7
versus 11.5 new infections per 100,000 population)"  African Americans accounted for the largest share of new
infections.(45% or 24,900).

We must begin to realize that Blacks in America face greater obstacles than any other race of people in this country.
We have given our lives away if we continue to stand for what appears to be reality for Blacks in America (lowest test
scores and graduation rates, highest incarceration rates, highest out of wedlock births).

We must begin to decide that our destiny is in our own hands.  We can chose life for ourselves and our families by
protecting our bodies and refusing to have unprotected sex.  Sex was meant to bring life but today for the Black
Community, it could mean an early death.  We must begin to make wise decisions.  To take the attitude that this could
never happen to you is ignorance.  To allow someone to talk you into unprotected sex and use LOVE as the
motivator, is ignorance.  Oral sex is sex, don't be ignorant.  By taking control of your own body, you protect yourself
and your families future.  He can't put his unprotected penis inside you if YOU say no.  Become educated, ask for help
if you need to so you can live a long prosperous life.
