THE ASSOCIATION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN SINGLE MOTHERS TAKE A
STANCE ON ISSUES JACKSON AND SHARPTON IGNORE
“The Black Single Parent Family Home Initiative brings focus back to education
and family commitment in the African American Community”

The Association of African American Single Mothers, a non-profit organization
founded in Sacramento California takes a demanding approach in refocusing the
African American Community.  Single mother of three and Founder Stacey F.
Johnson began the concept of the program as an effort to assist other single
mothers faced with challenges of raising a Black male in a home with no father
present.  Over the years, the Association began to develop many programs that
addressed the most common problems in the Black community, low academic
performance and low graduation rates from institutes of higher learning, high prison
population rates for Black males and the absence of positive male role models in
the lives of Black males.

The Black Single Parent Family Home Initiative brings focus back to education
and family commitment in the African American Community.  Almost 100 years
ago educator and civil rights attorney Charles Hamilton Houston said of Black
people and education, “Without education, there is no hope for our people and
without hope, our future is lost”.

The Black Single Parent Home Family Initiative was designed to educate the
African American Community statistically on their position as African Americans in
this country as it relates to African American Males and to provide guiding
principles to change the outlook of the African American Family.

Everywhere you find a statistic on the lives of African American Males and thusly,
the future of the African American family, you see words like “grim”, “at-risk”, and
“endangered species”.    The Association of African American Single Mothers
believes that all Black people must assume total responsibility for the lives and
successes of other Black people.

The initiative encompasses the concepts of having a different mindset on issues of
Religion, education, actively studying our African American History and
demanding accountability on the part of the male in issues related to children.
The initiative also stresses that Blacks must forge a world of self-determination that
is equal to that of society’s racism, an evil that is not disappearing anytime soon.

The first annual kick-off and potluck will be held Wednesday January 16th at
Hollywood Park School located at 4915 Harte Way in Sacramento California at 5:
15 pm.

The Association of African American will help all single mothers regardless of race
or religion.  We welcome comments on any topic we present.

THE ASSOCIATION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN SINGLE MOTHERS AND SACRAMENTO SCHOOLS PARTNER
TO BRING CHANGE FOR INNER CITY CHILDREN
“Programs developed to increase involvement of the African American Community”

The Association of African American Single Mothers, a non-profit organization founded in Sacramento
California takes another demanding approach in refocusing the African American Community.  Single mother of
three and Founder Stacey F. Johnson began the concept of the program as an effort to assist other single
mothers faced with challenges of poverty, absent fathers and other issues.  Over the years, the Association began
to develop many programs that addressed the most common problems in the Black community, low academic
performance and low graduation rates from institutes of higher learning, high prison population rates for Black
males and the absence of positive male role models in the lives of Black males.

On Saturday September 6, 2008 representatives of five Sacramento Elementary schools met with Director,
Stacey F. Johnson to discuss the new partnership developed in an effort to increase involvement of the African
American community in inner city schools.

As test scores continue to decline for African American children, Sacramento area schools desperately look for
ways to assist the children in these communities.  It is widely known that those children who receive active
involvement from immediate family as it relates to education do achieve higher academic scores.  This is
lacking in great numbers in the Black community.  What are also lacking are programs and services African
Americans find relevant for their children.  Sacramento schools understand this and have taken steps for change.

One goal reflected in the Mission of the Association of African American Single Mothers is to increase Math
scores for 3-12 grade students to a level of “C” or higher.  In exchange for free math tutors on a weekly basis for
all students, each school has agreed to the following:

1) Provide a letter of Cooperation recognizing the need for the services we provide.
2) Allow us to present a Black History Program to interested students.
3) Allow us to organize and present a Black History Presentation during Black History Month
4) Provide a room once a month for our Boys to Men Mentoring Program to meet and invite interested families.
5) Allow the use of your telephone communications system to make families aware of our upcoming events.

All the children in these schools qualify for free lunch.  As such, each school will also become a partner in the
AAASM Community Food Locker, a program that provides weekly food boxes to needy families.  These programs
begin Monday September 15, 2008

The Association of African American will help all single mothers regardless of race or religion.  We welcome
comments on any topic we present.
