Everywhere you find a statistic on the lives of African American Males and thusly, the future of the African American family, you see
words like “grim”, “at-risk”, and “endangered species”. My experience has been that there is either no male in the home or the one
that is there has been so manipulated by white society that he has come to be so controlling and has used his power to totally destroy
his own family.
There must be some happy medium, there must be Black families that can exist functionally and can be presented more proudly in
competition with other races in gaining those things this rich country has to offer. The current statistics are sad ones. All Black
people must assume total responsibility for the lives and successes of other Black people.
Almost 100 years ago educator and civil rights attorney Charles Hamilton Houston said of Black people and education, “Without
education, there is no hope for our people and without hope, our future is lost”.

Problems Identified
Inferior Public Education
Absence of Black men as role models
Low expectations from teachers and other adults
Low self Esteem
Black men’s low expectations, aspirations, and tendency to drop out of school
Seeds for Success
Initiative must begin at Home
Always put God and Family First
Maintain books in the home and discuss current affairs as this influences
children to want to know more and care about things of the mind
Study our African American History
Have an interest and emphasize the interest in the long-term benefits of
education
Gain a will to succeed academically
The Black man must assume total responsibility for the destiny of our children
Black Adults must teach children to take hold of their lives
We must forge a world of self-determination parallel (that is equal to) to that
of society’s racism, an evil that is not disappearing anytime soon.
